The Upshot, a New York Times politics and policy website, crunched some data to come up with a list of America's most cursed sports cities. We're not talking superstitions or urban legends—these are curses based on a serious methodology.
Compiling data going back to 1965, The Upshot looked at cities with at least two teams that have existed for decades across baseball, basketball, football, and hockey. They also factored in the misery of a team losing because of a bad call. Cleveland tops the list (below) as the most cursed city in the U.S.
David Leonhardt, the editor of The Upshot, explains how his team put this list together.
